Call our staff at 800-272-7043 for immediate attention to your individual case. I'm going to be using wound care supplies for a long time. Any help on cutting down on my costs?First, it is good that you realize it will take time to heal most wounds. The wound did not appear overnight and it will not go away overnight either. So cutting down on costs is critical for most people. One way is to purchase the items in bulk, and Bach's will work with you on getting the items you need in the most economical fashion. Just let us know you will be a long term wound care patient. Another cost saving factor is to not purchase sterile products unless you really need them. Generally only the first layer of dressings applied to the body need to be sterile. All other dressings applied on top of that layer, known as the secondary dressings, do not need to be sterile. Save some money but more importantly get better! How did my father ever get a wound on his elbows? Not uncommon, but easily treatable and in many cases preventable. We would assume your father spends a lot of time in bed, perhaps even a hospital bed. If his nutrition status is not up to the level it should be, this is a very important factor. Make sure he eats well, takes the proper vitamins and uses nutritional supplements such as Boost or Ensure. The next step to look at is pressure, either directly on the elbows, ie downward, or sheer pressure which happens when the elbow stays in place but the skin moves around it. This can happen to any joint area, ie heels, back of head, buttocks, etc. Many elderly patient's skin has lost the elasticity and protective fat layers that you or I may have. You need to protect them from this situation. Talk to the nurses or customer service people at Bach's Home Health Care Supply about your situation. Can I really take my blood pressure at home?Yes. There are two main types of systems, manual and electronic. Both are adequate for home use. Manual systems use a stethoscope and cuff. A person can be easily trained to do this themselves, but remember you must have a certain level of hand dexterity and good hearing levels to get a good reading. If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself, then consider an electronic model which will do it all for you. Then your only decision is to have it fully automatic by just touching one button, or a manual inflation system that requires you to pump the bulb before the machine takes over. Costs can vary widely, so rely on the staff to give you the right advice. | |||
