Seating & Positioning

Adaptive Seating

Not all patients sit alike in their respective mobility devices. Our professional staff of certified technicians working under the direction of rehab technology specialists certified under NRRTS and RESNA, can achieve what many have called "miracles" in getting patients to sit with correct posture, in spite of medical conditions that may make it seem impossible.

Proper positioning not only achieves a reduction in painful sitting after prolonged periods of time, but also allows for proper digestion, bowel maintenance, stronger respiratory function and decreased chance of risk of decubitus ulcers and skin breakdown.

Do not leave this critical step of seating and positioning out in prescribing, recommending or purchasing any mobility devices. Any vendor can provide a wheelchair, only qualified providers can accomplish the ultimate in seating correctly.

Our technicians fabricate and modify, in conjunction with manufacturers and our own workshop, to accomplish the most complicated of patient cases. Rely on only the best. Unfortunately these services can only be provided within our regional area of Northern New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania due to the complex nature of followup required.

Can seating and positioning be added to an existing system?

Absolutely, and this is frequently the route taken when insurance reimbursement is inadequate. Just let our specialist know that your existing wheelchair base is in adequate shape and we will advise you each step of the way.

Does insurance ever cover seating and positioning ?

Yes, but the first requirement is complete medical justification. Realize that an insurance company cannot see you or what you are trying to achieve, so good documentation is vital to the process. Just a prescription that says "wheelchair with custom back" will never get reimbursed correctly, if at all. The best intentions of all involved, therapists and physicians alike, can only be explained fully by the patients chart notes.

How long does it take to get a properly fitted power wheelchair and right seating with it?

Good question, and there is no right answer. We have a very thorough 25 step process that takes the process from your first phone call to eventual reimbursement. Just to mention a few are, the patient evaluation, return of medical documents from your physician, insurance authorization, fabrication of the system and eventual delivery and fitting. Start to finish, times can vary from a few days to many months. Patients that are involved in the process can assist in getting the paperwork and insurance phase done faster.

Its just a wheelchair with a cushion. What's the big deal?

True, in many cases it is routine. But if it is not, then you need certified seating and positioning specialists, either NRRTS or ATS certified, to make sure the eval is done correctly. Bach's Home Health Care Supply proudly employs the right individuals for you IF you need us.
